Partners

The project partners are six major players in the biomedicine ecosystem in Latvia

Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) is an independent public research organization possessing a broad spectrum of drug discovery and development research infrastructure and expertise including medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, biophysical chemistry, and process chemistry. LIOS has a strong focus on collaboration with industry comprising 1/3 of its funding and is a part of a wide academic network including 11 EU-funded research consortia and EU-OPENSCREEN ERIC.

Riga Technical University (RTU) is the leading engineering science university in Latvia. Biomaterials and wastewater treatment technologies as well as microbial safety are among the strengths of the RTU. RTU High-performance computing (HPC) center allows for solving complicated computing problems in a short period of time. It has participated in several H2020 projects and has also done whole-genome sequencing data analysis.

University of Latvia (UL) is an expert institution of basic, translational and clinical research. Broad international collaboration, including with the industry sector (Microsoft, ROCHE, Johnson&Johnson etc.) has been developed. Collaboration with 3 University Hospitals (P.Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Riga East Clinical University Hospital (RECUH), and Children's Clinical University Hospital) enable obtaining of high-quality clinical data sets.

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is a research university, a leader in medical and public health research in Latvia contributing to health policy at the European level. The main research directions are Oncology, Microbiology & Virology, Bioinformatics, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Disease Prevention. RSU consortia memberships - EATRIS, BBMRI, EOSC, SHARE, Cancer consortia, EIT Health. Network is developed through local and international research projects (Horizon Europe, COST Actions, ERDF, FLAG-ERA) and technology transfer activities.

Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment (BIOR) is a multidirectional scientific institution with a strong background in integrated research in the fields of public health and animal health, food and environmental safety. BIOR is a leading institution among the Baltic States in terms of laboratory capacity and the range of available advanced instrumentation in areas of molecular biology (NGS) and organic mass spectrometry. A wide range of scientific activities implemented by BIOR team of scientists ensures the availability of laboratory capacity for resolving multidisciplinary tasks involving biological and chemical risks.

Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center (BMC) is an independent research institute with leading expertise in human genomics, cancer, biotechnology, and vaccine development. BMC has established several essential research infrastructures, including the National Biobank and Genome Center, Animal and Cell biology labs, and Biotechnology facility. BMC has a strong industry partnership in vaccine development and participates in many international networks, including INSTRUCT, BBMRI, and the European '1+ Million Genomes' Initiative.
